Sunila here and I’m excited to share a project I made for the Rainy Days Collaboration hosted by Tina Walker.
We were to decorate an umbrella using our StencilGirl® Stencils.
Here’s a look at what I’ve created. I’ve used acrylic paint with the Stencil Star Struck by Nathalie Kalbach (L662). I’ve embellished it with 3d Acrylic cone work to mimic stitches and stones.

We wrote a little poem inspired by this:
The Dandelion Fields
Golden and warm-
So were the
Dandelion fields.
Striking and blazing,
That every passerby
Stopped to see them.
Elegant and ethereal,
Was the Dandelion girl
The one who lived in them.
Glistening and glittering,
When the sun shone,
She rose amidst them all.
Swift and rhythmic-
With every move of hers,
Our hearts danced and raced.
Singing and humming
To the little robin,
The one who nested on her shoulder.
She spoke of stories
That we’d never heard before.
Blossoming and spiralling,
She wore them dandelions
On her body and her crown.
Daffodils and dahlias
Enveloping her hair and wings,
Swayed, as the wind brushed her skin.
And with that, her seeds blew
Leaving her bare.
But with the blink of an eye
She was whole again.
And so all we knew was
Wish upon the dandelion girl
For she has the power
To blossom again.

Today I’m sharing a mixed media style layout with you’ll. I was inspired by two challenges for this project.
The Main Challenge at More Than Words. The word inspiration is ‘Everyday’ and the creative inspiration is ‘bugs and birds’. I picked out the activity that I cherish doing everyday- pausing, reflecting, meditating. It helps me travel within and reach this paradise and connect with nature in ways unimaginable. It also helps me grow each day as a soul. It’s as though my reflection speaks to me. I’ve added butterflies and a bird in this journey to paradise.
I was inspired by the Lindy’s Colour challenge for April– Teal, Pink and Purple.
Oh, wildflower!
Pause and reflect,
Look deep within
And lose yourself
Among the clouds.
Run wild, run free,
Through the trees and
The poppy fields.
Take a nap and dream,
Float with the breeze,
Hop in the stream,
Step on the stones
And soak in the wilderness.
Oh, Wildflower!
You’ll bloom right here,
Where you’re planted,
For the weeds are wishes
And under the stars
You light the way.
Breathe it all in
Oh, wild child!
So when it is harvest time,
You’ll shine brightly
And sing your little song.
And when we cross paths,
We’ll speak in breezy whispers
And dance in the rain.
For these are our
Everyday treasures
And this paradise
Is the perfect storm
To blossom and shine.

Here’s the poem and how we were inspired by it.
Soul-Mending Project Version 1.1
Fixing broken pieces of your soul,
is not like joining pieces of a puzzle.
The same pieces that once fit together,
may no longer do so.
Sometimes you need to hurt,
to take it all in.
And, some pieces need to be discarded,
when sifting through them.
Once you’re done hurting,
pick them up piece by piece
and mend your soul.
Sew them and stitch them back again.
The threads you use will remind you,
of how you patched it all together.
It won’t be the same,
The scars will be there,
But you’ll been one again.
We were inspired by the idea of the soul being fragments (our different patterned hexagons) and puzzle pieces. When you mend them, they do leave gaps, and necessarily don’t fit back together. We used thread to stitch them together, with varying patterns as it’s never the same. The Deer spirit reminds us to be gentle and kind with ourselves through this process. The flowers remind us about the idea of blooming and then drying, falling, yet the seeds blossom into a flower again. The colour palette we used- Teal, Greens, Mustard(Gold) all speaks to us of soul renewal, of spring, of fixing.
