Favourite Artist

Well, today we’re here with an interesting creation! We were inspired by the Canvas Corp Brands August Challenge- Let’s Visit the Cinema (#ccbchallenge) (our LO revolves around a music composer, playback singer, and actor of the Indian Cinema) and the 7 Dots Studio Challenge Favorite Artist (Our favorite artist from Indian Cinema).

Our creation revolves around Shekhar Ravjiani, the famous music composer from the duo Vishal-Shekhar. He is an amazing singer and has sung songs in several Indian languages, and different genres. He has also acted in the film Neerja! He is an inspiration, and we can listen to his songs on the repeat playlist zillions of times (including his devotional songs).

Recently, he has launched a single ‘Devi’, a tribute to daughters/women. We have immense respect for him and when we saw these two challenges we couldn’t help but create a layout with him!

Now we are such huge fans, that we couldn’t stop at one layout; so we decided to create two :)!

For both are layouts we used the 7 Dots Studio Hazy Days Collection, Art Alchemy Paints, Lindy’s Sprays, Papericious Chippies, Sizzix Die, Art Ingredients glitter. Same materials and two different projects!

Here’s the first one:

The lyrics are from a song Gehra Ishq from Neerja and here’s an English translation-

“in your light breeze,
my existence has begun to fly away.
this fragrant love, that is all fragrance
this submerged-immersed, deep love.”

Asia- India

Today we’re travelling to the continent of Asia as a part of The International Tournament of Art & Craft Challenge 2.

The themes, elements and the board for this challenge are so vibrant and fun to work with. Since we are from India, we thought of showcasing that as a part of Asia in our layout today.

Itac 2

Here’s how we’ve interpreted the challenge:

Our layout is an Indian Wedding Celebration with all the rich and luscious colours- Orange, Magenta, Purple, Fuschia and Gold. Our background consists of a border on the top, all done with stamping and incorporating motifs to represent a traditional Saree border (saree being a traditional Indian attire). We’ve added textures with a mandala stencil and worked our focal picture and layering around that. Our elements include mandalas, flowers, geometric flowers, leaves, and other motifs. We’ve also added some hand shaped flowers and leaves for dimension as well as a realistic touch. For our colours, we’ve played with pigment powders and inks.  Our layout not only represents the Saree border, but also a Mantap- which is the auspicious place of a wedding where the couple takes their vows.  Hence our elements, further add to the real feel of a Mantap.

  • Motifs inspired by mandalas- We’ve used Indian Motifs as well as Mandala motifs in our background as well as layering
  • Geometric shapes- We’ve used geometric flowers and leaves in our layering
  • Tiles – Ceramic, pantiles, glazed tiles, or their designs- We’ve used the doodling/free flow designs in our background and layering elements
  • Asiatic flowers, such as cherry blossom, chrysanthemum, orchids, lotus, Frangipani, lilies, hibiscus etc- We’ve used the Frangipani also known as Plumeria and Lillies in our layering, our background border has the Lotus
  • Calligraphy or handwriting- Our title is handwritten
  • Fabric, faded or dyed- Not used
  • Powdered pigments- We’ve used our pigment powders for colours in our background. We also used them to colour a few layering elements.

Today we were inspired by the Altenew Challenge Sketch 4 and created a layout. Instead of interpreting it and changing it, we followed the sketch as it is because it was something very different. Here’s the sketch:

We were also inspired by the Rubber Dance Embossing Theme Challenge and heat embossed our flowers and leaves.

We’ve created a layout on the vacation we want to have- a visit to Italy! For this layout, we used a pattern paper from the Reflection Kit as well as flowers. Our focal flowers are first stamped with Versamark, heat set with gold and then stamped with shades of inks for the layers and shading.  Around our picture, we stamped ‘want to visit’ continuously. To create a wreath around the image, we first stamped with black ink and the Botanical Garden Stamp Set. We finished it off with some yellow splatter.

Today we’ve created a journal spread in this cute narrow little book of ours. We love working in this book, as it really challenges us and gets our creative juices flowing. This because of the layout of the book.

We’ve used our Dina Wakley paints for this one. This page is all about abstraction and how at times, this abstraction is great to represent a thought/idea.

We were inspired by the 13 Arts mood board for this one. The colours and the theme are from this challenge board.

Beach Bound

Today we’ve created a Journal Album for an upcoming Summer-Beach Vacation.

We’ll be revealing the cover of our journal today, which is rich in texture and character. We were inspired by the Thematic Challenge at Mixed Media & Art Blog. We’ve incorporated the blue sea, the star as starfish, the sand, shells, and the contrasting orange in our sentiment.

Here’s a look at the board:

We were inspired by the theme Nautical at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.

Apart from these, we are also entering this piece for The International Tournament of Art & Craft- Challenge #1 Europe. Here’s how we incorporated the elements:

  • Papers–  We’ve used a lot of tissue paper for our base to create the waves.
  • Letters– In our sentiment phrases
  • Blue for the colour of the European Union, Union Jack– In our deep blue sea
  • Ribbon, twine, string or lace– We used broad lace in the background for our sandy area.
  • Textures – take inspiration from history from ancient civilizations to the fall of the Berlin Wall– Our journal cover is filled with textures, crackle effect representing all the erosion land and sea; the ripples; the waves; the grainy texture of the sand; the shells; bubbles; glitter representing frothy water hitting the shore.
  • Something both vintage and modern-  All in all, we were very inspired by the seas/islands of Europe and this reminds of a fun vacation. These places have been preserved and are a combination of vintage and modern.

Here’s our Journal cover:

I have a dream, a song to sing…

Today we’ve created a layout inspired by the Papericious August Challenge Mood BoardMore Than Words August Challenge and Mixed Media World Challenge.

We were inspired by the bright vibrant colours, butterflies, sequins and dream catcher from the Papericious Mood Board.

For the More Than Words Challenge, we’ve portrayed Harmony in the world around us, in nature and how everything comes together. We were inspired by the song “I have a dream” from Westlife. This song further emphasises on the fact that we all have dreams and sometimes it’s all things around us that come in harmony to fulfil these dreams.

We were inspired by the beauty in nature and the colours from the Mixed Media World Board.

We’ve used a lot of Papericious mediums and mixed media products for this one. All the supplies are listed at the end of this post.

Here’s a look at our layout:

Fussy Cutting

We’ve created a journal page inspired by the theme of Fussy Cutting at Colorful Creations, the theme Challenge at Rubber Dance and Take It Make It Anything Goes Challenge at Craft Stamper.

August 15

We were also inspired by this month’s Rubber Dance Colour Trio, which was something different than usual. Here’s a look at it:

For this page, we enjoyed playing with our Dylusions Paints. Our focal elements are stamped and fussy cut flowers and leaves. We kept this one simple, with some texture using embossing paste and the icraft stencil we received, with our copy of The Idea Book, for our background. We then added some background stamping in black.

Take It Make It Anything Goes Challenge at Craft Stamper

Hello everyone,

We’re back with another layout. This time we were inspired by the Mood Board at Mixed Media Warriors, Mixed Media Place and the Colour Challenge at Lindy’s Stamp Gang.

When we saw the Mixed Media Warriors Mood Board, the Theme Old school and the image of the tea pot took us to the olden times, high- tea parties and the fruity cupcakes that were a part of these parties. So we chose the blueberry cup cakes as our focal image and worked around it. The colours in both the boards, further reminded us of the decorations, the elegance and the elite. We incorporated all these elements in this layout! Our vellum and paper flowers were also coloured using Lindy’s. We were inspired by the Lavender flowers and the blossom from the Mixed Media Place mood-board. All in all taking delight in the little things of life around us!

We had fun playing with colours, as we mixed quite a lot of shakers with each other and the sprays to achieve our tones. We also mixed the magicals with modelling paste for our texture. This layout clearly emphasises on the versatility of Lindy’s Stamp Gang Products and the numerous things one can do with them! We also added some berries amidst our other embellishments and elements.

Dream On

Today we were inspired by the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Color Challenge Palette for August and creates a journal page. The  Take It-Make It Anything Goes Challenge at Craft Stamper with evident stamping was an inspiration as well.

We started off with some modelling paste and a stencil on the corners of our page. Once dry, we added the Chateau Rose and Plumeria Pink spray. We then mixed the Magical Shaker Polka Purple with water and added it to the page. We then used the same colour to stamp a few circles. We then stamped using the Messy Script stamp with Jet Black Archival Ink. We added black splatter and stamped the words dream on. To complete the background, we ran the edges of the page on our craft mat with Chateau Rose.  We stamped our focal image- the princess and coloured it. We then assembled some doily, flowers and leaves around the focal image and that completed our page.
