Orange Blossom-AECP 3-Creative Watercoloring with Erum

Today, I’m sharing a mixed media home decor canvas. It is perfect for summer especially with those oranges. As always, I’ve brought together several techniques on this project.

I was inspired by techniques shared in the Altenew Creative Watercoloring by Erum, Advanced Techniques , a class I chose for Level 3 certification. I love using watercolours and by that I mean using inks as watercolours too. This class gave me a lot of tips and tricks in terms of the medium usage but also mixing it up in mixed media. I was particularly inspired by the faux woodgrain effect and in my project today, I recreate that slightly differently. I’ve used watercolour brush markers, but on a canvas board, and to step it up, I used clear embossing powder as well as brown for added texture once I was happy with the woodgrain background.

I have a reel sharing the embossing technique for the oranges. I did blend inks on the die cut layers before assembling them and adding embossing powders.

Today I’ve created a Mixed Media home decor piece inspired by two challenges. I was invited by Mixed Media Academy to guest design for their August Challenge. The challenge is to create something inspired by the colour palette and a Zodiac Sign.

I combined this with the Nomadic Soul Diaries August Challenge.

NSD August

Here’s my project: Inspired by MMA- The colour palette works for me very well because these are my go-to colours. I’ve used a crescent moon idea and created my interpretation of the universe. I believe my purpose is to heal, inspire and spread light. The Virgo Symbol is of a maiden carrying s shaft of wheat. In my interpretation, I’ve used it as a fairy carrying this light to illuminate the world. I’ve also depicted the universe from the Moon’s perspective, which means space seems white and the moon and stars have the colour:)! This to me is a metaphorical representation of how others perspective and point of view is so important for me. The phrases I’ve used are lines from a poem that I’ve written and talked about this idea. 

NSD- I’ve created a home decor hanging, used crystals and as for mosaic I’ve interpreted it as assorted patterns that make a whole and used a stencil and mandala to represent it.

Using Lindy’s Sprays- Cathedral Pines Green,  Poinciana Red Flame, Grab a Guy Gold, Blazing Sun; Magicals- Silent Night Silver and Tiffany Lou’s Blue; Embossing Powders- Poinsettia Red Green, Lederhosen Laurel; Papericious Chipboard elements, Heartfelt Creations Stamps and Dies, and assorted elements from the stash we have these napkin rings, cutlery holder, candle stands, Christmas tree and sleigh for a nice Christmas scene.
