Bonkers Scrapbooking Layout

Yesterday we had a great YouTube live stream hop celebrating The International Scrapbooking Day.

I was inspired to document this memory with my friend Nuneka and create a funny layout. I chose to work with Nomadic Soul Diaries May colour palette and was inspired by the quote. We truly are a rainbow in each other’s cloud. I decided to recreate the ‘Tea Party” from Alice in Wonderland. I was also inspired by the More Than Words May Challenge. I’ve used a pattern paper with stripes and the photos are quote depict the ‘funny’ element of the challenge.

Here’s a look at the layout

  6. Adhere, all the elements as per the composition you like. Finish it with glitter and a quote/sentiment. IMG_2781

We wrote a little poem inspired by this:

The Dandelion Fields

Golden and warm-

So were the

Dandelion fields.

Striking and blazing,

That every passerby

Stopped to see them.

Elegant and ethereal,

Was the Dandelion girl

The one who lived in them.

Glistening and glittering,

When the sun shone,

She rose amidst them all.

Swift and rhythmic-

With every move of hers,

Our hearts danced and raced.

Singing and humming

To the little robin,

The one who nested on her shoulder.

She spoke of stories

That we’d never heard before.

Blossoming and spiralling,

She wore them dandelions

On her body and her crown.

Daffodils and dahlias

Enveloping her hair and wings,

Swayed, as the wind brushed her skin.

And with that, her seeds blew

Leaving her bare.

But with the blink of an eye

She was whole again.

And so all we knew was

Wish upon the dandelion girl

For she has the power

To blossom again.

Oh, Wildflower- Mixed Media Layout

Today I’m sharing a mixed media style layout with you’ll. I was inspired by two challenges for this project.

The Main Challenge at More Than Words. The word inspiration is ‘Everyday’ and the creative inspiration is ‘bugs and birds’.  I picked out the activity that I cherish doing everyday- pausing, reflecting, meditating. It helps me travel within and reach this paradise and connect with nature in ways unimaginable. It also helps me grow each day as a soul. It’s as though my reflection speaks to me. I’ve added butterflies and a bird in this journey to paradise.

I was inspired by the Lindy’s Colour challenge for April– Teal, Pink and Purple.

Here’s a look at the layout

Oh Wildflower_Mixed Media Layout_Dots to Lines_Sunila Mahajan_Aditi Mahajan_Lindy's_Altenew__Fantasy Dies_7Dots Studio 2

I’ve written a poem to talk about this experience-

Oh, wildflower!

Pause and reflect,
Look deep within
And lose yourself
Among the clouds.
Run wild, run free,
Through the trees and
The poppy fields.
Take a nap and dream,
Float with the breeze,
Hop in the stream,
Step on the stones
And soak in the wilderness.
Oh, Wildflower!
You’ll bloom right here,
Where you’re planted,
For the weeds are wishes
And under the stars
You light the way.
Breathe it all in
Oh, wild child!
So when it is harvest time,
You’ll shine brightly
And sing your little song.
And when we cross paths,
We’ll speak in breezy whispers
And dance in the rain.
For these are our
Everyday treasures
And this paradise
Is the perfect storm
To blossom and shine.

StencilGirl Gift-worthy Blog Hop KP

gift-worthy-stencilgirl-creative-team-blog-hop-header-720pxWe have a blog hop and the theme is ‘Gift worthy’. It’s interesting to see what each creative team member from StencilGirl® has created.

We’ve made a basket weave gift box. We first created papers using Stencils, Acrylics and Gel Press. We then made our basket box base using chipboard. We cut the paper up into strips and stuck it onto the base on the top, bottom and sides to replicate a weave pattern. We added a crochet border for more details. We then embossed some elements using stencils and finished up the cover.

It makes for a great gift box. One could fill it up with a mini-album, use it to hold art supplies while travelling, gift chocolates or trinkets; anything and everything!

Be sure to hop over to each fantastic project and leave a comment for the artist!

The more comments, the more chances you’ll have to win $50 worth of StencilGirl® stencils! Good luck!

Mark Making and Texture for StencilGirl®

This month, the theme at StencilGirl® Blog is  ‘Texture it or Make Marks On It’. As mixed media artists, we love doing both of these. We find solace and creative freedom in this form of art.
Today we decided to play in our journal with minimal supplies, create marks and textures on our page, but keep our layers flat. Which means, no foam tape, no added embellishments, just luscious and vibrant layers.
Here’s a look at what we accomplished:

Self-Discovery- A mixed media layout

Today we’re guest designing for More Than Words Challenge Blog. Here’s a look at their challenge for this month:

I (Aditi) was inspired by the word inspiration and based my layout on that. ‘Discover’ to me spoke of my own discovery and hence I decided to scrap myself in this Layout. The layout is a collection of many moments from my time in Spain. The background is created using watercolour inks and lindy’s magical shakers. I’ve incorporated a technique I discovered during my time at the Art School. I’ve used Scrapbox Chipboard and dies for the embellishments (that I’d bought during my travels and went hiding in my stash). These to me speak of directions. I’ve used lace, doodling pens and a resin frame as well from my old stash as a part of the creative challenge. The colours used are also symbolic to this journey.

I’ve also written a poem on this:

Sometimes, you ought to isolate,

in order to find yourself.

In solitude, I found

my laughter, my joy, my peace.

And then I

discovered me!

Life has its ways,

and if you surrender

healing is magical.

Sometimes, you ought to move,

in different directions

to find the light within.

It’s circular and spiral,

not linear, this journey

called life.

And freedom lies in

flowing like a stream

and swaying with the wind.

And when that happened,

my heart opened up,

sunshine warmed-up my soul,

and love gushed in every cell.

With a new passion and gratitude

my entire being blossomed.

Fantasy Call

It’s always good to take up new challenges and join new teams. It’s a way of not only showcasing your skills but also learning and growing. It’s an exchange of skills, talents, ideas and much more and that adds value to lives. We’ve been a part of the Fantasy team this past term, and have enjoyed our tenure. We wish to continue and inspire people with our creations using their fabulous knives and chipboards.

We are Sunila & Aditi (mother & daughter, aka Dots to Lines) and we live in Bangalore, India. We have been mixed media artists and scrapbookers professionally for about 5 years. We are into paper-crafting, Mixed Media Layouts, Art Journaling, Albums making, Altered Art and Scrapbooking. Our style of art and craft is a fusion of techniques and use of vibrant colours. We aim to spread joy. Every creation of ours, speaks a story and we enjoy sharing this with people. We keep learning and try to incorporate variety in our creations.  We keep ourselves updated and upgrade our skills timely.

We would like to re-apply and continue our term with Fantasy. We are huge fans of Fantasy Dies and chipboards. We would love to be a part of the Team, to showcase creative ways of using Fantasy Dies/Chipboards. We have a great standing and viewership as artists/crafters in the Indian Market, and we would be able to contribute to the growth of the brand, reaching a newer market like India. We have many interested crafters/artists who love using dies and chipboards in their creations, and with us showcasing the product, it would sure help the brand enter this vast art world in India. With our versatility, we’d love to showcase them across projects- journals, cards, layouts, altered projects, etc. Also, it would be a great opportunity for us to work with a team of mixed artists, share, and learn together. We’re punctual and hence timely project submission is a plus! We are into blogging and have experience being Design Team Members. We are active on social media platforms. We regularly also participate in various blog challenges. Documenting memories, especially through mixed media art and scrapbooking makes us happy.

Along with an International Artist Nuneka, Aditi has an Instagram Challenge for 2019 by the name of Nomadic Soul Diaries.  Through this, we aim to encourage people to express their creativity. We have 50 international designers and various brands associated with us for this. And the response so far has been magnificent.
We have also been a part of various Blog Hops and YouTube Hops with International Artists. We have a few upcoming events as well. We enjoy video tutorials and have an active YouTube channel.
We are also teaching at Art Walk Alchemy, a class each, this year. Here’s a link-  Apart from this, we do take workshops.
Contact Names– Sunila Mahajan and Aditi Mahajan (aka Dots to Lines)
