Fabric and more fabric

Today we have a fun tutorial for you’ll. When we read Papericious’s Challenge for October- add some fabric, we were excited. We just bought the latest collection of laces and jute cords and now we had a reason to use them :)! We also were happy with “Paint the sky make it your” challenge for October at Mixed media Placeย and with the techniques used in this project, we surely have broken a few of our limitations.

We’ve altered a tray into a wall art piece.

Products used- Papericious paper from Infinity collection; laces- flowers, square, leaves;jute cord wine red; self adhesive buttons, micro beads and pearls.

Step 1- We cut the paper according to the interior of the tray , however we kept the length 12″. We then scored it at 1″ and fan folded it (alternating up and down). We then spread it out and adhered to our tray with tacky glue.

Step2- We covered the sides and rim with crackle texture white using a palette knife.

Step3- We wanted to make flowers ย with the laces. We cut the square lace horizontally creating three rows and each having seven squares. We cut out circles on an ivory sheet to assemble our flowers. With each strip of lace, we used the same fan folding technique (alternating up and down), and stuck it onto our circle at one point in the centre leaving the rest to spread out like a fane. We stuck three such next to each other creating a flower. We made two such flowers.

We also cut the leaves lace to get 6 individual leaves. We then laid out three onto our circle and added three more on top in the gaps. This is what we achieved.

Step4- We used the remaining paper and die cut a few flourishes. We then added splashes of pink and gold to all our elements including the flowers lace and the crackle sides and rim of the tray. We completed our fabric flowers with pearls in the centre.

Step5-We now assembled and stuck all our elements on the tray using glue gun. We added the self adhesive buttons, jute cord and micro beads at this stage. We stamped the word cherish onto left over pieces and added it in to give some meaning to this piece.

And voila! This surely turned out fabulous and we were amazed at our own creation. Hope you guys enjoy this tutorial, and get to making one yourself!
